Appleby Conservation Easement:
30 Acres adjacent to the Capitol State Forest, Thurston County.
Conserved in 2008
.

The Appleby Property provides important forested and wetland habitat for a wide variety of species. From bald eagles to red foxes, cougar and deer, the Property's diverse natural areas are ideal for wildlife. Contained on the Property are forests with a diverse mix of western red cedar, Douglas fir, western hemlock, big leaf maple, grand fir and alder. These forested areas provide habitat connectivity to the McLane Creek Nature Preserve, the McLane Creek and Eld Inlet watersheds, and especially the adjacent Capitol State Forest.

The Capitol Forest is a 91,000-acre forest owned and managed by the Washington State Department of Natural Resources.  Permanent protection of the Appleby Property benefits many species that rely on large areas to hunt, feed, rest and travel.

Nature is for us nothing but existence in all its freedom.
