Pannell-Goldsborough Creek Wetlands Preserve:
20 Acres of wetlands in Mason County. Donated in 2005

Capitol Land Trust is now the owner of this wetland complex donated by  Ron and Dawn Pannell.  Several years ago the Goldsborough Creek dam was removed downstream from this property, opening up miles of salmon spawning and rearing habitat. The Squaxin Island Tribe identified the Pannell’s property as one of the highest priorities for habitat conservation in the Goldsborough watershed.

Overview of property:

· 20 acres on Goldsborough Creek, just outside Shelton in Mason County

· Forested wetland and riparian habitat

· Home to a wide array of birds and wildlife

· Important spawning and rearing habitat for chinook, chum, and coho salmon; steelhead; and rainbow and cutthroat   trout

· CLT Strategic Conservation Goals met by this project: Protect riparian areas and wetlands with biological connections to marine and estuarine habitat.”

The word [Nature] comes from the Latin, to be born, which is fundamental enough, and puts it under the heading of abiding mystery.
